Thoughtful Thursday

The Princess Diary

When I was a little girl, we were very poor. For a time, I didn’t know that we were poor. I thought everybody was the same. Then, sometime around first or second grade, I noticed that some of the children in my class would have birthday parties and I would be invited.

“Can I go to Susie’s birthday party?” I’d ask. “No,” my parents would say, “We don’t have the money to buy a gift.” Then, months passed, and it was almost time for my birthday. “Can I have a birthday party?” I asked. “No, we don’t have any money to buy refreshments.”

Later on, I began to notice that some of the girls in my class had joined the Girl Scouts, or actually, they were called the Brownies, for our age level. They would come to school in their little brown dresses, and their little brown beanie caps, and their sash with pins on it that they had earned. One of my best friends asked, “Why don’t you join the Brownies?” So, I asked my mom and dad, “Can I join the brownies?” You might have guessed by now. They said, No. We don’t have the money for uniforms, or gas to go to meetings.”

I began to understand that we were not all the same. So…in my childlike imagination, I began to pretend that I was really a fairytale princess from England. I must have been switched at birth. Oh, I knew better, but it was fun to pretend that, in my other life, I could have lavish birthday parties, and fancy balls, and wear fancy clothes. Also, I would walk through town, and everyone would smile and wave, and they all adored me. This was just a fun little fantasy that I carried around in my head, and brought it out when I wanted to feel special.

BUT GUESS WHAT?!?!  I AM a princess! I’m a child of the King!

Romans 8:16-17 tells us:

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children,

Now if we are children, then we are heirs…heirs of God, and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings, in order that we may also share in his glory.”

So…there you have it! My childish imaginings of being a princess cannot even compare with the glory that awaits us! I am constantly amazed at God’s promises.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9

I love to sing the words of an old hymn that says:

“I’m a child of the King,
A child of the King,
With Jesus, my Savior,
I’m a child of the King.”

HAVE A GREAT THURSDAY!
